How long until I get my results?

Following the scan, your radiologist will review the images and create a report which will then be reviewed by one of our Pall Mall GP’s, who will the discuss the results with you.

We aim to process all reports within no more than 14 working days - however, operational issues mean that this can sometimes take longer. Please do not worry, if your results take longer than 14 days to be delivered,  this does not automatically mean that there’s anything concerning showing up in your results.

When your results are ready, you will receive a full report that explains the findings in detail. If any follow up appointments or tests are needed, they will be detailed in the report. If you're confused by your results or would simply like to discuss the findings further, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

It’s easy to get an appointment online or over the phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our expert team are always on hand to help answer any queries and arrange appointments with our specialist consultants.

Should I be worried if I need an MRI?

A doctor or consultant usually recommends an MRI if they want to take a closer look at certain areas of your body. We understand that this can cause some anxiety, but it is usually thought to be for the greater good in the long run so should not be anything to worry about. Our Brain & Body packages are perfect for early detection, providing answers, or giving you a detailed health check

Once your results are in, you have the peace of mind knowing exactly what has been causing any recent issues you’ve experienced. From there, you can rest assured that our team will put together a treatment plan to get you feeling more like yourself again.

How long does an MRI take?

An MRI scan can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours. You will be informed of how long your scan will take when booking your appointment.

Is an MRI scan painful?

As an MRI scan is a non-invasive procedure, no anaesthesia or pain relief is required. However, if you have claustrophobia or are particularly nervous, you can request for some sedation. We request that you make us aware of your preference in advance of your procedure date.

Can anyone have an MRI?

Although an MRI is considered a safe procedure, it may not be recommended for certain people. If you have or are experiencing any of the below, we advise you consult with us for an alternative procedure:

  • A cochlear implant
  • Any metal in your body (like a pacemaker)
  • Experienced allergic reactions to similar procedures previously
  • Kidney problems
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
How long do I have to wait for my MRI results?

Here at Pall Mall, we aim to process our reports within 14 days. However, sometimes operational processes can delay this. Please do not worry, if there are any delays, we will keep you in the loop. It does not automatically mean something is wrong with your results.

Is an MRI safe?

Substantial research has been undertaken as to whether the magnetic properties and radio signals during an MRI used can cause issues to the human body. No evidence has been found to indicate there is a risk. Plus, as an MRI is non-invasive, it is thought to be one of the safest procedures.

I have claustrophobia, will I still be able to have an MRI?

We understand how distressing claustrophobia can be, which is why we do everything we can to make sure you feel as calm and comfortable as possible during your procedure. Our expert team are extremely experienced and are on hand if you have any queries or concerns.

Plus, when you are in the scanner, there is a button next to you that you can press at any time if you feel you need assistance. It is not a one-way system too. The line of communication remains open throughout the scan so that you can talk to the technician operating the machine at any point.

If you feel like you will be anxious on the day, you can also request sedative medicine prior to your procedure.

Can I get additional areas of the body scanned?

Yes. If you would like to get tests for other areas of the body that aren't included, please mention this to your specialist at one of your consultations.

How much will a private MRI scan cost me?

Prices for a brain and body MRI scan by Pall Mall start at £1,500. Pall Mall Medical provides finance with AffordIt Now. This way, you can spread the cost of your MRI scan with different payback periods to suit your budget.

What is an MRI?

An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a type of scan that takes place in a large tube surrounded by powerful magnets. The strong magnets create magnetic fields and radio waves, which produce detailed images of the inside of the human body.

These pictures can show all angles of your internal organs and soft tissues, which can be used to accurately diagnose a condition or monitor an ongoing treatment plan.

Magnetic resonance imaging differs from PET and CT scans as it does not involve X-rays or other radiation types. This means the patient is not exposed to direct harm.

If you're still unsure if an MRI is right for you, why not book a free consultation with one of our specialists? Our expert consultants can answer any questions you may have and, with two years of aftercare, you can trust that you're in safe hands with Pall Mall.
