What is a Private Prescription?
A private prescription is a medical prescription issued by a private healthcare provider, rather than through the NHS.
As part of our Private GP service, we can issue private prescriptions and repeat prescriptions for any medication that you need. All you need to do is arrange an appointment with one of our experienced GPs, who, following an assessment, will be able to prescribe the appropriate medication. We also hold a range of medications in our onsite storage, which may save you a further trip to a pharmacist.
All of our GPs are registered with the General Medical Council and can prescribe medication for a range of issues and circumstances, including if you:
Have conditions diagnosed or confirmed by our GPs;
Have run out of your regular/repeat prescription medication;
Have forgotten or lost your tablets, inhalers or medicine;
Need access to emergency contraception; or
Are seeking medication that is not available on the NHS.

Private Repeat Prescriptions
We can provide repeat prescriptions for patients who have previously seen one of our GPs and an agreement has been made to put your medication/prescription on a repeat course.
This makes it even more convenient for patients who have busy lives. To request a repeat, simply get in touch with us and we’ll organise this for you. Your Pall Mall GP will agree on a duration for the repeat prescription before a medication review is required.
Types of appointments available:
Face to Face options of 15, 30, 45 & 60 minutes
Telephone appointments - 15 minutes
Video appointments - 15 minutes
Note: It is at our doctors’ discretion to decide whether to provide a prescription or not.

Can I use insurance to cover Private Prescriptions?
We work with all of the major private medical insurance companies. You may be able to cover the cost of a private GP appointment using your medical insurance policy. Always contact your insurance company before booking an appointment. They’ll check to see whether your policy covers this service at Pall Mall, and they can pre-authorise your consultation. When you contact us, you’ll need to provide your insurance details and pre-authorisation code.

Convenient telephone or video appointments available
A telephone or video appointment with one of our private GPs is the same as if you were seeing your doctor face to face.
You’ll be able to talk about your symptoms and concerns and your GP will recommend the best course of action, whether that’s treatment, a scan, testing or a referral to one of our specialist consultants. If you book a telephone appointment, the doctor will call you on the phone number you’ve provided.
If you choose a video consultation, you’ll receive an email with a link. When it’s time for your appointment, click on the link and follow the simple instructions to join your GP.

What is a private prescription?
Everyone in the UK is entitled to free healthcare via the NHS. However, with the NHS comes overcrowding and long waiting times. For these reasons you may opt for private healthcare and consequently, if required, you will be given a private prescription.
What’s the difference between a private prescription and an NHS prescription?
There is usually a standard charge to pay for NHS prescriptions, although sometimes they are free for certain people. The cost of a private prescription can vary depending on the provider and the medications being prescribed.
How much does a private prescription cost?
Private prescriptions and repeat prescriptions at Pall Mall cost £20. The cost of the medication itself can vary and will be charged in addition to the cost of the prescription.
Can I get a private prescription for medication not available on the NHS?
Yes, our GPs can prescribe medication not available on the NHS.
How long does it take to get a private prescription?
Our GPs can give you a prescription immediately after your appointment. You can then take your prescription to any pharmacy to collect or order your medication. In some cases, your private GP may even be able to give you the medication at your appointment.
Do private prescriptions expire?
Yes, private prescriptions must be used within a certain period of time, although this can vary depending on the medication being prescribed. Most prescriptions are valid for six months from the date they are issued.
How do I collect a repeat prescription?
If you have already seen a Pall Mall GP and have had a repeat prescription issued, just get in touch with us when you need the repeat medication. We will write the prescription and send it directly to your chosen pharmacy, or you can collect the prescription from one of our clinics.
