About Us | Pall Mall

What is a private GP Appointment

If you need to see someone quickly, Private GP appointments offer a full range of benefits and treatments. All it takes is a simple phone call or a few clicks and you’ll be in touch with a qualified professional who will be able to help.

No matter what’s weighing on your mind, a private GP appointment gives you the answers and action you need much faster than the alternative. Get the quality healthcare advice you need when it matters most - no waiting lists, and with flexible appointment lengths to suit your lifestyle!

Unlike the NHS, you have the option to choose your own doctor, so you can find someone who you feel comfortable with and trust.

Many of our patients find they build a rapport with their dedicated GP that lasts for years, with their families and friends knowing they are in safe hands with fully-qualified professionals, registered with the GMC.

Appointments to suit you

At Pall Mall, you’re in full control. Our private GP appointments can be as long - or short - as you’d like, ranging from a short 15-minute session to a much more in-depth 30 minute consultation.

Our doctors are also able to arrange longer 60 minute sessions for those looking to discuss treatment plans, a complicated medical history or anything else that might be on your mind.

Whatever your reason, our private GP appointments are here to give you plenty of time to talk about your experiences, symptoms and get patients on the road to recovery.

Owned & led by doctors.

Stand-out healthcare. As standard.

At Pall Mall, our patients are at the heart of everything we do.

So when it comes to funding your healthcare, our team is always upfront about costs - so you’ll never be surprised by hidden fees - and you don’t need to have health insurance to arrange an appointment.

GP appointments with our trusted service are always secure and confidential. We don’t require your NHS records and we don’t let your existing GP know that you’ve been to see us, unless you’d like us to disclose it.

Thanks to custom timescales and zero waiting periods, there are no limits or restrictions on what you can discuss with your Pall Mall GP.

You can:

Talk about any medical condition, in complete confidence and discretion
Get a second opinion of an existing diagnosis
Access private healthcare without sharing your notes from, or with, your NHS doctor

GMC registered Surgeons

Why is it so hard to get an appointment with a GP on the NHS?

The NHS is currently undergoing an unprecedented amount of strain due to a number of factors, which is making it increasingly difficult for patients to get an appointment with their GP.

Long Waiting Times

According to the NHS GP Patient Surgery (2022), there has been a ‘sharp rise’ in people struggling to get hold of their GP practice over the phone - with more than a quarter of patients saying they are avoiding making one altogether because of the stress.

Within a year, the number of those surveyed who reported that it was not easy to make contact with anyone at their practice shot up by almost 47% compared to 12 months prior.

New processes, old infrastructure

Of course, GP practices had to keep pace with the pandemic. New laws and safety measures meant the introduction of new online booking systems and phone consultations, introducing new processes at a rapid pace.

In some cases, these landmark changes happened almost immediately - which was tricky for many GP surgeries dealing with older administerial equipment and the sheer demand.

This caused a lot of difficulties for a number of patients, such as those who didn’t have access to technology or older members of the public. As such, another blockage was created when it comes to easily accessing medical advice and assistance.

Lack of new GPs

According to the British Medical Association (BMA), the NHS lost a total of 743 GPs between March 2021 and April 2022. When polled about retirement age, almost half of all current GPs are hoping to leave the profession by 60 - citing burnout as one of the leading causes.

The NHS itself is also under increasing pressure due to an ageing population that's continuing to get sicker as they grow older. As a result, fewer GPs are left with 16% more patients - almost 300 more people - compared to seven years previous.

Many patients are now turning to private GP appointments in order to get the medical assistance they need and deserve.

With Pall Mall, you’re in safe hands. Skip the queue and get in touch with our team to book your appointment today.

End-to-end Service

But what if you need further care?

If your private GP thinks that you would benefit from seeing a dedicated consultant for an injury or problem, we can simply arrange this for you within minutes, providing seamless access to some of the best specialists in their field.

Say goodbye to long-awaited referral letters and the revolving door of unfamiliar faces handling your healthcare.

We put you at the heart of everything we do

Why should I see a Private GP?

There are plenty of reasons why you should see a private GP.

Our qualified professionals are often able to see you the very same day as you book - whether you’d prefer to see a doctor in-clinic or over the phone - so no question or medical concern should go unqueried.

Seeing a private GP can circumvent many of the challenges that are affecting mainstream medical care, such as long waiting times for NHS appointments and not being seen by your desired doctor.

While you may have been limited to inconvenient GP office hours with public treatment, at Pall Mall we have clinics open from Monday to Saturday.

We pride ourselves on zero waiting lists for our appointments, with slots available at late nights and weekends so you can get the care you need at a time that suits you.

We know the impact that a lack of continuity in care can have on a patients’ physical and mental health, which is why we give you the option to stay with a dedicated GP here at Pall Mall.

Whether you come to us once or twice a year, or would like regular reviews of an ongoing care-plan, we know that your GP already fully understands you and your medical history can provide much-needed reassurance as you move forward.

As such, it’s crucial that you have enough time spent with your GP to ensure you get the best treatment.

Unfortunately, due to demand and general strain, regular doctor appointments are often limited - often only giving you 10 minutes to rush through your symptoms and recieve any advice.

As a result, many patients often come away feeling rushed and unheard, with many worrying that their concerns have not been taken seriously.

What's the solution?

At Pall Mall, we want you to feel confident that your private GP has taken adequate time to fully understand the problem at hand and weigh up the best options.

That’s why we offer a range of appointments and lengths to help you tailor your experience to suit your needs, with a wide range of services available to give you the best care possible.

Each appointment is private and confidential, giving our patients the time and space to talk through their experiences and fully explore their options.

Book an appointment with Pall Mall today

This means we can fully understand your current situation and symptoms before planning the best course of action.

We’ll also never keep you from a referral or further exploratory treatment if that’s what you would prefer.

As always, we only work in our patients' interests. So we will only offer advice and recommendations if we truly think they will benefit you - but if you have a certain test or scan, we will do our best to accommodate.

Blood Tests

A blood test can be one of the quickest and simplest ways to find out if there’s an underlying problem that’s causing - or attributing - to your symptoms. If your doctor thinks that a blood test would help, we’ll be able to book you in to see one of our dedicated nurses at a time that suits you.

At Pall Mall, our dedicated testing team can process your bloods and get them to you within a matter of hours through to a few days for more extensive testing. To make things even easier, you can request how you’d like to receive your results, via:

  • Email
  • Post
  • Phone Call - you can either call us or a member of the team will get in touch.

If requested, results can also be faxed or posted to your treating consultant or NHS GP.

If you have had a GP consultation in the first place, we also offer a free of charge call from our GP to discuss the results should you require this.

Prescriptions

Tablets, ointments, solutions. We know that it can be tricky to get your hands on the things needed to keep you happy and healthy day-to-day, which is why our private GPs can write you a prescription directly.

Say goodbye to lengthy waits or having to plan checks weeks in advance, as our private GP service can write and send your prescriptions directly to a pharmacy during your chosen appointment slot.

Or alternatively, we can send your prescription to any chosen pharmacy so you can pick it up whenever’s convenient.

We can organise repeat prescriptions or, if your GP decides to suggest a new treatment, our in-house service allows us to write up a new prescription for you to use as needed.

Prescriptions with Pall Mall are simple. Exactly as they should be

Please note: Booking a 15-minute appointment with us is usually the optimum amount of time needed for those looking to organise repeat prescriptions.

A longer appointment may be required when prescribing new medications, to ensure you get all the information and checks needed before going home.

Sexual Health Checks and Screenings

Whether you already have existing symptoms or are looking for some much-needed peace of mind, our discreet Sexual Health Services will be able to help.

Our services are confidential and discreet. We’ll only ever share results directly with you and do not need to disclose your checks with your NHS doctor unless instructed otherwise.

We’re here to provide the best possible healthcare - which means we are with you every step of the way. That means our specialist GPs are able to provide you with further information and assistance should you need it, with experienced practitioners available from early morning to late evenings.

Second Opinions

Not feeling listened to? Or perhaps you’d simply like another professional opinion?

If you would like a second opinion on an existing diagnosis, then our GPs are more than able to help.

With our Extended Private GP Appointments, your doctor will be able to discuss any concerns and explore your options.

During this time, we can cover your extensive medical history, multiple concerns and any current treatment plans you have in place, ensuring that everything is as it should be.

It’s important to note that in some cases, you may be referred for further tests to obtain a full diagnosis.

At Pall Mall, our mission is to provide healthcare services that help patients thrive, live longer, healthier, happier lives - which is why we take pride in offering second opinions that might give fresh insight on new, or existing, conditions.

To book a second opinion at Pall Mall Medical contact us at gp@pallmallmedical.co.uk and ask for an extended appointment.

Vaccinations for Home and Away

Whether you’re heading abroad or simply need a booster vaccination, get the vaccinations you and your family need from our private clinics in Manchester, Liverpool and our own hospital in Newton-le-Willows.

We have a full range of routine and travel vaccines for adults and children, including non-NHS vaccinations required for both.

For those planning to travel, our privately administered vaccinations can offer peace of mind before you go, especially if you are heading to countries that require immunisations against Malaria or Yellow Fever. As such, our Manchester Clinic is a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, providing much-needed protection for those living, working and holidaying abroad.

Our qualified GPs are able to administer vaccinations during a short, private appointment.

If you’re unsure about what vaccinations you’ll need before heading abroad, or need a bit of advice on immunisations for the whole family, our helpful customer service team will be happy to answer any questions.

Or if you prefer, you can arrange a private appointment with a Pall Mall GP or Nurse who can offer specific advice about the country's recommendations.

Mental Health Support

When it comes to your mental health, you deserve care, time and support.

At Pall Mall, if your mental health is starting to affect aspects of your life such as work and relationships, then booking in a chat with one of our private GPs can get you started on the right path.

Our GPs will be able to talk through your thoughts, feelings and symptoms, such as helping you decide next steps. We’ll be able to assist with any medication with our private prescription service, if needed, or refer you to our qualified psychiatrists.

At Pall Mall, we offer a number of services and treatments to help our patients with their mental health needs.

We can refer our patients quickly and seamlessly, which is why many people choose us as an alternative to the NHS - who are currently struggling with long waiting lists, insufficient resources and constant demand.

Our Private GP Appointments can internally refer patients to help with:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Psychiatric Medicines
  • Talking Treatments - such as therapy or counselling.

We know that talking about your mental health isn’t easy. So we can give you as much information on all the options available to you and advise where appropriate, to help you make the right choice.

Before you decide on any method or take any medication, our team will ensure that you feel confident and comfortable before making those important next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Can I bring someone with me to a private GP appointment?

Yes, if you feel more comfortable bringing a family member or friend to a GP appointment with you then you are more than welcome to.

Can I claim for my appointment on my insurance?

Appointments with GPs are not usually covered by insurance companies. If you are referred to a consultant or have a procedure done at Pall Mall Medical then the majority of these will be covered by insurance companies. It is advisable to check your policy or ask your broker or insurance company to be sure of what is covered.

If I have a blood or sample test done with one of your GPs, when can I have the results? When will I receive the results?

Depending on the kind of testing being carried out you can receive your results in a matter of hours through to a few days for more extensive tests. You can request how you receive the results and the options are by email, post, by calling us or we can call you. We can also post/fax results to your treating consultant or NHS GP - if requested.

If you have had a GP consultation in the first place, we also offer a free of charge call from our GP to discuss the results should you require this.

Where are the GP appointments available?

Appointments with Pall Mall Medical’s GPs are available in our clinics located in Manchester and Liverpool. To book a GP appointment at Pall Mall Medical contact us on 03300 27 26 45 or email us at gp@pallmallmedical.co.uk

How do I pay for my appointment?

For GP appointments you can pay by cash or by credit or debit card (excluding American Express) on the day of your appointment. We will require a £25 deposit to confirm the appointment itself. The cost of a private GP appointment is time-only, there will be an additional charge for in-clinic services provided such as blood testing, referrals, letters, prescriptions and scanning.

Can I cancel an appointment if I no longer need it?

Yes although ideally, you will give us 48 hours notice when cancelling an appointment so we can offer your appointment to somebody else. For our full cancellation policy, please click here.

Do I need to register with your GPs to have a consultation?

There is no formal registration process to go through when you visit a GP at Pall Mall Medical, if you are a new patient we will ask you to provide some basic details but it is not the same as registering with an NHS doctor. Patients do not de-register with their NHS GP when registering with Pall Mall Medical. The process for registering at Pall Mall Medical takes just a couple of minutes. We will not let your NHS GP know you have attended Pall Mall Medical unless you specifically ask us to.

Can I see your doctors if I have an emergency?

Yes, there is no waiting list to see our doctors and in many cases, you can make a same day appointment. Please note that if you have an urgent medical problem, it may be more appropriate that you visit your nearest A&E department.

Do I need to see one of your GPs before I see one of your consultants?

No, you can book directly with the consultant of your choice without the need for a referral from a GP. This service is particularly useful if you already have a diagnosis and would like further advice.

Do your GPs provide sick notes?

Our GPs can provide sick notes for an additional £20 on top of a GP consultation fee. However, it is not guaranteed that our GPs will provide sick notes as it depends on the individual’s situation. Please note, we can only provide backdated sick notes if you have seen one of our doctors previously for that illness.

Can your GPs refer me to further investigations?

Yes, if during an appointment your GP believes you would benefit from having further tests and investigations done they will arrange this for you. This can often be done in the same appointment, saving you another trip to the clinic. Many results are back within 24 hours.

How often should I review my medication?
If you are concerned that your long-term medication is becoming unsuitable then you may wish to have a medication review. It’s advisable that you have your medication reviewed at least once a year to check the medication is still appropriate for your symptoms. During a review, you can discuss your medication and any side-effects or problems you may be experiencing and the doctor may recommend an alternative medication.
If you are experiencing severe side-effects or any unusual symptoms as a result of taking your medication then it’s vital that you seek medical help immediately.
To book a medication review at Pall Mall Medical contact us at gp@pallmallmedical.co.uk and ask for an extended appointment with one of our experienced GPs.
How do I know if I should see a GP?
Although pharmacists and nurses can help with routine ailments, in most cases the first port of call when you are feeling unwell should be a General Practitioner.
GPs can give you a full assessment, including looking at your and your family’s medical history, and prescribing suitable medication or treatment if required. In many cases, a GP will be able to offer you a plan of treatment after just one visit but if your ailment is more serious you may be asked to come back for a follow-up appointment or you may be referred for further investigations such as blood tests, X-Ray or an MRI scan for example.
I have already had a diagnosis from my GP but would like a second opinion - can your GPs do this?
Yes, if you would like a second opinion on an existing diagnosis then our GPs can provide this. In some cases, you may be referred for further tests to obtain a full diagnosis.
To book a second opinion at Pall Mall Medical contact us at gp@pallmallmedical.co.uk and ask for an extended appointment with one of our experienced GPs.
How often should I have a gull medical/health screen?
During a medical or health screen, a doctor will assess your general health by asking you questions, reviewing your and your family’s past medical history, performing a physical examination and performing a variety of blood tests. A health screen is a proactive way to spot any potential health concerns early and is also an opportunity to review your existing health concerns and any medication you are currently taking. It’s recommended that you have a health screen every year. We offer a range of health screens:
- Well Man / Well Woman Health Screens
- Individual Heart, Liver and Lung Health Screens
- Prostate and other male-specific Health Screens
