What happens during a brow lift surgery?

From your first call or email, we’re here to look after you. Whether you’re researching about techniques to raise your brow area and would like more information, or you’re ready to meet a surgeon to see what results you can achieve, our team of patient co-ordinators are here to help.

Consultation

During your free consultation the surgeon will speak with you for around 20-45 minutes, during which time you will have a discussion on what to expect from surgery, the risks involved and they will also be on hand to answer as many questions as you’d like.

Most importantly a facial exam will take place and the surgeon will have a conversation about the techniques that can be used to get your desired result.

Pre-Operation

If you are having any worries in the lead up to your brow lift, you needn’t be concerned as before surgery we will invite you into the clinic so that a nurse can perform a series of checks to make sure you are medically fit for the surgery.

The health check is very simple and will involve an MRSA check and possibly a blood and urine test. A nurse or surgeon will then take photos of your face before the brow lift for recording purposes.

Following these checks, you will be able to speak with the nurse about how to prepare for surgery, the timeline of what will happen and get answers to any concerns about side effects.

Surgery

On the day of surgery you will arrive at our state of the art hospital and be shown to your en-suite room, so that you can settle in and prepare. The surgeon and nurse will be in constant contact with you so that your stay is as comfortable as possible.

During the surgeon’s visit, you will once again be asked for your consent and a pre-surgical update will be given to you so that you feel informed and confident about the upcoming procedure.

You will then proceed to theatre and then be sedated with a local or general anaesthetic, the surgeon will perform the brow surgery by creating a series of small incisions. The operation takes between one and two hours.

Post-Surgery

Following surgery, you will have to wear bandaging on your forehead for the next 3 days and spend an evening in the hospital.

You may suffer swelling in your forehead and upper eyelid area.

We will ask you to come in and see a surgeon or nurse one, two and six weeks after the surgery so that we are up to date on your progress. We will also provide you with pain relief medication to help combat your discomfort.

Aftercare

At Pall Mall, we pride ourselves on our aftercare programme and you can be certain that we will manage your recovery personally. Come to our clinic as often as you like, or get reassurance from one of our team of wonderful nurses 24/7 over the phone. In addition to our support, we would also recommend taking it slow at home and avoid bending over or straining for the first few days after surgery.

What is a brow lift?

Eyebrows often become “droopy” with the natural ageing process, (known as “brow ptosis”) with lines and wrinkles appearing as a result. The brow lift procedure, also known as a forehead lift, lifts the eyebrow brows hence removing “frown” and “worry” lines – specifically on the forehead and the bridge between the nose & eyes. It can also provide a smoother appearance around the eye area.

The procedure is performed alongside or as an alternative to non-surgical anti-wrinkle treatment.

Many people opt for blepharoplasty treatment at the same time, which corrects sagging or “hooded” around the eye area. A combination of these two procedures can restore a youthful appearance.

There are a number of surgery methods that can be used to perform the procedure – all of which your Surgeon can fully discuss with you in detail. The two most common techniques the temporal direct brow lift or the endoscopic brow lift.

Is a brow lift suitable for me?

With the natural ageing process, eyebrows will often sag and droop, creating an aged appearance, which in turn creates lines & wrinkles.

Whilst non-surgical brow lifts are possible using anti-wrinkle treatment, a surgical approach is especially much more suitable to address issues where people wish to:

  • Achieve a permanent solution
  • Address multiple areas, alongside the brow/forehead area – common combinations include the upper & lower eyelids, cheek area, lower face
  • Cure visual/optical issues
  • Remove & prevent headaches caused by the forehead muscles (frontalis) being “overworked” or suffering from fatigue when liftin the eyebrows.
  • Non-surgical options are suitable for many people but do require re-treatment every 3-4 months in order to achieve optimal results.
