Appointment options to suit you from a quick 15 minutes to a more detailed 60 minutes

Choosing the right appointment length for your needs

Our private GP appointments can be as long or as short as you’d like, ranging from a short 15-minute session to a much more in-depth 60-minute consultation.

To help you choose the best appointment for your needs, we’ve outlined what you can expect below.

15-minute appointment

These are ideal for follow-up appointments, obtaining repeat prescriptions or discussing simple medical concerns

30-minute appointment

This is especially recommended for brand-new patient consultations, general check-ups, or acute illness or injury

60-minute appointment

These sessions are designed for patients with a complex medical history, multiple concerns or who require chronic disease management - giving your GP plenty of time to consider your needs and next steps

The same excellent treatment you’d receive in-clinic from the comfort of your own home

What happens during a telephone or video appointment?

You can expect the same treatment you’d receive in-clinic from your private doctor - but you can take it in the comfort of your own home through telephone or video link. Whether by phone or video, your consultation will feel just like an in-person chat, where you can comfortably share any concerns or symptoms.

  • The doctor will contact you at the number you provide when you book a telephone appointment. If you choose a video consultation, you’ll receive an email with a link.

  • Whether you’re on the go or relaxing at home, find a comfortable, quiet spot where you can speak privately - this will help make your consultation feel as comfortable and focused as possible.

  • When it’s time for your appointment, all you have to do is click on the link and follow the simple instructions to join your GP on video.

  • Your GP will listen and understand your health concerns and can suggest treatment options and next steps, such as a scan, medication, further testing or a referral to one of our specialist consultants.

How can a private GP help?

Healthcare isn’t just ‘one size fits all’ - you need agile, attentive treatment that is tailored to your unique medical needs.

At Pall Mall, our expert care and specialist services are here to make your experience as smooth as possible. With an extensive range of options available, your private GP appointment can help you get to the bottom of a new or pre-existing condition quickly and effectively.

General health concerns

Our private GP appointments give you the space and opportunity to talk about anything that’s weighing on your mind.

Unlike traditional NHS GP slots, where time can feel limited, we offer flexible appointment lengths so you have the time you need to feel heard and understood.

That means you can ask as many questions as you’d like, so you have complete clarity on your own health and wellbeing. We’ll never rush you or limit your session to just one topic.

This means we can fully understand your current situation and symptoms before planning the best course of action. We’ll also never keep you from a referral or further exploratory treatment if that’s what you would prefer.

Blood tests

A blood test can be one of the quickest and simplest ways to find out if there’s an underlying problem that’s causing or contributing to your symptoms. If your doctor thinks that a blood test would help, we’ll be able to book you in to see one of our nurses at a time that suits you.

At Pall Mall, our dedicated testing team can process your bloods and get them to you quickly, sometimes within hours of the test. To make things even easier, you can request how you’d like to receive your results, via:

  • Email

  • Post - to you and/or your treating consultant or NHS GP

  • Phone Call - you can either call us or a member of the team will get in touch

If you have had a GP consultation in the first place, we also offer a free of charge call from our GP to discuss the results.

Private prescriptions

We know that it can be tricky to get your hands on the medications or topical treatments needed to keep you happy and healthy day-to-day, which is why our private GPs can write you a private prescription directly.

Forget about lengthy waits or having to schedule appointments weeks in advance. Our private GP service can write and send your prescriptions directly to a pharmacy during your chosen appointment slot.

Alternatively, we can send your prescription to any chosen pharmacy so you can pick it up whenever’s convenient.

We can organise repeat prescriptions or, if your GP decides to suggest a new treatment, our in-house service allows us to write up a new prescription for you to use as needed.

Please note: A 15-minute appointment is typically the ideal duration for arranging repeat prescriptions.

A longer appointment may be required when prescribing new medications, to ensure you get all the information and checks needed before going home.

Sexual health checks and screenings

Whether you already have existing symptoms or are looking for some much-needed peace of mind, our discreet Sexual Health Services will be able to help.

Our private appointments offer a wide range of checks that provide a comprehensive health screening, including the space to discuss symptoms directly with a GP and get quick, efficient treatment.

Our services are best suited for for:

  • Those who have presenting symptoms

  • Patients who have no symptoms but would like a check

  • People who may be at risk of contracting an STI from a partner

  • Those who would simply like to schedule a one-off or regular STI screening

At Pall Mall, our GPs are available in our Liverpool and Manchester clinics, so you can access top-level care across the North West.

Our services are confidential and discreet. We’ll only ever share results directly with you and do not need to disclose your checks with your NHS doctor unless you instruct otherwise.

Second opinions

Feeling like you're not being heard? Or maybe you’d just appreciate another professional perspective on your health? If you’d like a second opinion on an existing diagnosis, our GPs are here to help.

During your appointment, we’ll take the time to review your medical history, discuss any concerns you may have, and go over your current treatment plan to make sure everything is on track.

It’s important to note that in some cases, you may be referred for further tests to obtain a full diagnosis.

Vaccinations for at home and abroad

Whether you’re heading abroad or simply need a booster vaccination, get the vaccinations you and your family need from our private clinics in Manchester, Liverpool and our own hospital in Newton-le-Willows.

We offer a full range of routine and travel vaccinations for adults and children, including vaccinations typically not available on the NHS.

For those planning to travel, our privately administered vaccinations can offer peace of mind before you go, especially if you are heading to countries that require immunisations against Malaria or Yellow Fever. Our Manchester clinic is a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, providing much-needed protection for those living, working and holidaying abroad.

Our qualified GPs are able to administer vaccinations during a short, private appointment.

If you're unsure about the vaccinations you may need before travelling, or if you need guidance on immunisations for your family, our experienced medical team is here to provide you with the information you need.

Or if you prefer, you can arrange a private appointment with a Pall Mall GP or Nurse who can offer specific advice about the country's recommendations.

Mental health support

Your mental health is important, and you deserve the time, care, and support you need.

At Pall Mall, if you're feeling like your mental health is impacting areas of your life, such as work or relationships, a conversation with one of our private GPs can be a great first step towards getting the support you need

Our GPs are here to listen and help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and symptoms in a supportive and understanding environment. Based on your needs, we can discuss options for moving forward, whether that's exploring treatment options, offering private prescriptions if appropriate, or referring you to one of our experienced psychiatrists for further support.

Our Private GP Appointments can internally refer patients to help with:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

  • Psychiatric Medicines

  • Talking Treatments - such as therapy or counselling

We understand that discussing your mental health can be challenging. That's why we're here to provide you with clear, helpful information about all your options and guide you in making the choices that feel right for you.

Frequently asked questions

Have questions about booking a private GP appointment? Find answers to common queries about our services, appointment process, and what you can expect, ensuring you feel confident and well-informed before your visit.

Can I bring someone with me to a private GP appointment?

Yes, if you feel more comfortable bringing a family member or friend to a GP appointment with you then you are more than welcome to.

Can I claim for my appointment on my insurance?

Appointments with GPs are not usually covered by insurance companies. If, however, you are referred to a consultant or have a procedure done at Pall Mall Medical then the majority of these will be covered by insurance companies. We would advise you to check your policy or ask your broker or insurance company to be sure of what is covered.

When will I receive any test results?

Depending on the kind of testing being carried out you can receive your results in a matter of hours through to a few days for more extensive tests. You can request how you receive the results and the options are by email, post, by calling us or we can call you. We can also post results to your treating consultant or NHS GP, if requested.

If you have had a GP consultation in the first place, we also offer a free of charge call from our GP to discuss the results should you require this.

Where are the GP appointments available?

Appointments with Pall Mall Medical’s GPs are available in our clinics located in Manchester and Liverpool. To book a GP appointment at Pall Mall Medical contact us on 0161 832 2111 or Book Online

How can I pay for my appointment?

For GP appointments you can pay by cash or by credit or debit card (excluding American Express) on the day of your appointment. We will require a £25 deposit to confirm the appointment itself.

The cost of a private GP appointment is time-only. There will be an additional charge for in-clinic services provided such as blood testing, referrals, letters, prescriptions and scanning, if needed.

Can I cancel an appointment if I no longer need it?

Yes - please let us know that you need to cancel your appointment at least 48 hours before, so we can offer the time slot to someone else. Read our cancellation policy for more details.

Do I need to register with your GPs to have a consultation?

There is no formal registration process to go through when you visit a GP at Pall Mall Medical. If you are a new patient we will ask you to provide some basic details but it is not the same as registering with an NHS doctor.

Furthermore, you do not de-register with their NHS GP when registering with Pall Mall Medical. We will not let your NHS GP know you have attended Pall Mall Medical unless you specifically ask us to.

Can I see your doctors if I have an emergency?

Yes, there is no waiting list to see our doctors and in many cases, you can make a same day appointment.

Please note that if you have an urgent medical problem, it may be more appropriate that you visit your nearest A&E department.

Do I need to see one of your GPs before I see one of your consultants?

No, you can book directly with the consultant of your choice without the need for a referral from a GP. This service is particularly useful if you already have a diagnosis and would like further advice.

Do your GPs provide sick notes?

Our GPs can provide sick notes for an additional £20 on top of a GP consultation fee. However, it is not guaranteed that our GPs will provide sick notes as it depends on the individual’s situation.

Please note, we can only provide backdated sick notes if you have seen one of our doctors previously for that illness.

Can your GPs refer me for further diagnosis or treatment?

Yes, if during an appointment your GP believes you would benefit from further tests or treatments they will arrange this for you. This can often be done in the same appointment, saving you another trip to the clinic. Many results are back within 24 hours.

Can Pall Mall provide GP services for employees?

Pall Mall’s private GP appointments are also available as part of our corporate medical services, providing comprehensive exams and diagnostic testing to support employee health. This includes a full range of healthcare monitoring for employees, critical workers, and executives, as well as annual health assessments.

We also provide the following services:

  • Obtain a sick note, or request a new or repeat prescription

  • Injury / conditions requiring a scan or radiology imaging

  • Acute or recurrent illness requiring treatment or medication

  • Consultation on personal problems or work-related issues e.g. stress

  • Blood or laboratory testing

  • Drug and alcohol screening when substance misuse is suspected

  • Access to over 150 specialist consultants covering over 50 specialities

How often should I review my medication?

If you are concerned that your long-term medication is becoming unsuitable then you may wish to have a medication review. It’s advisable that you have your medication reviewed at least once a year to check the medication is still appropriate for your symptoms. During a review with one of our GPs, you can discuss your medication and any side-effects or problems you may be experiencing.

If you are experiencing severe side-effects or any unusual symptoms as a result of taking your medication then it’s vital that you seek medical help immediately.

To book a medication review at Pall Mall Medical contact us and ask for an extended appointment with one of our experienced GPs.

How do I know if I should see a GP?

Although pharmacists and nurses can help with routine ailments, in most cases the first port of call when you are feeling unwell should be a General Practitioner.

GPs can give you a full assessment, including looking at your and your family’s medical history, and prescribing suitable medication or treatment if required. In many cases, a GP will be able to offer you a plan of treatment after just one visit but if your ailment is more serious you may be asked to come back for a follow-up appointment or you may be referred for further investigations such as blood tests, X-Ray or an MRI scan for example.

What language can your GPs speak?

Our GPs are able to consult in a variety of languages, including, but not limited to:

  • English

  • Arabic

  • French

  • Italian

  • German

  • Spanish

  • Romanian

  • Russian

  • Polish

  • Cantonese

  • Mandarin

  • Hakka

If you cannot see your language above - please check with our bookings team who will be able to advise.
